Usually, I try to post a few times a week on this blog. For the past month, I haven’t been successful on that endeavor. From flying back from NYC to Iowa to numerous family gatherings, it hasn’t been easy to write more than once a week. Also, I have just become extremely lazy about it. Not a good habit to form.
In all of this whirlwind chaos, I have begun to look toward the new year. To more job searching, writing, and the events that come with family and friends. What will come in the months ahead?
This past weekend, I had the honor of accompanying my cousin and one of my greatest friends to pick out her wedding dress. Room after room, the group searched for something that looked like Elizabeth. When dresses are covered in plastic, it is hard do. They all start looking the same after awhile. And one dress may look super in the bag, but plain or too frilly on the person. It was so exciting watching her stand in the floor length mirrors – oohing and aahing over a beautiful train or the pleating of a skirt. Finally, she chose one that felt right to her and the entourage. I couldn’t stop grinning at the bride-to-be.
Miss Elizabeth has appeared in many of my past columns (I will post a couple of them here soon). From Barbies to boys, we have maintained a great relationship through it all. She is probably one of the sweetest people I know – who has a hard time with gossiping or talking bad about anyone. It’s just not part of her nature. Elizabeth cares and cares and cares some more. Before my grandmother passed away, she spent a great deal of time massaging her body – giving her relief from all of the pain. No one asked her to do so, she just did.
So while this new year unfolds, I am so happy that she is able to enjoy planning for the big date later this summer.
In all of the hectic-ness, it is nice to be able to step back and look at a really bright aspect happening this year. A celebration for one of my favorite people!
